Título: Photographing the Produce Truck

Legenda: I took the pictures of the produce truck that comes to the neighborhood a few times day. We can buy vegetables and fruit and milk and snacks. It is good because sometimes we can”t  get to the store and the food is cheaper on the truck then into the store too.

What has it meant to be a part of this project? It has helped me see my neighborhood differently.

Título: Stephanie at Work

Legenda: I took this picture because we come to the park everyday and work on homework and this picture shows Stephanie working on her homework. I think it is important to have a safe place to go and learn and get a good education.

What has it meant to be a part of this project? I like the idea of sharing our vision with kids from all over the world and see what they think of these same issues.

Título: Turning Flowers into Vegetables

Legenda: I took these pictures because they show how we can feed ourselves when we are hungry. We can grow our own food and turn our flowerbeds into garden. Our chickens lay eggs and we can eat them.

What has it meant to be a part of this project?  I like to photograph things that could help the world see ways to change.

Legenda: This photograph was taken in Retiro Park on a Sunday afternoon. The boy is sitting Indian-style on the pavement to watch a street performer that had the attention of a throng of park-goers. He had pushed his way to the front of the circle where he could get a clear view. I hope that this picture primarily sends a message of health and contentment in this boy’s life. Although there are no parents visible in the picture, it is clear that he is well taken care of. His sleeves are meticulously rolled up, his hair carefully brushed, and his jeans and shirt are spotless. He is calm and content because he is healthy and happy. His situation is so stable that he can carelessly spend a day at the park. Additionally, to add to the theme of health, I discovered after taking the picture that the pavement is almost immaculate.  Even if it really was dirty at the time, the image portrays unusually pristine pavement before him. Lastly, the warm sunlight is coming down on his figure, indicating that it is almost sun-set. Even though it is almost dark, he has no fear of going to sleep with an empty stomach. As a suggestion for some elements of irony in this photo, one could interpret the pavement to be a symbol of the fear of over-development in the world. Even though this child is obviously living very well, the photo could be taken to mean that with the luxuries that he is enjoying also comes the destruction of environment. Moreover, the feet at the top of the frame are those of the performer’s. They are very different from the boy’s feet – dirty and adorned with costume sandals. The photo could be taken to suggest that the boy only regards this man as an entertainer, and will forget his poverty once he leaves the park to return to his lavish home.

Legenda: To do this work, I decided to take my camera and go to some places of my city (Madrid), to find some of the goals that where on the list. I did this on a Saturday and I went to one of the famous and crowded street of Madrid, I knew I will find something there, because it is a street where all type of persons goes. I started walking around and realized that there were lots of people asking for money in the street, some of them working as mimes, but also lot of homeless.
Pedestrians passed by, making photos only to the good mimes, and giving them some money, but only a few people notice the homeless, this is not because they were out of the transit, it is because we are so used to see them always in the street asking for money, and if they don’t do something different between them, we don’t realize that they exist. There are so many that the “prize” goes to the one who is innovating, this could the reason why they are asking for money. For example in the picture I made, the guy is asking for money for his dog, he tries to convince us, or to make us laugh, or just to let us feel that he is different of all the others.

 osf08_000141.jpg

Legenda: The sad thing of this homeless in big cites is that sometimes they just want to live in the street, or they ruined their live because of the drugs and alcohol, the money you give them, they will expend it in drugs that kill them.  I think that there is important to finish with the hunger and poverty, but sometimes that starts helping them not only giving them money, or food, but also giving them emotional support, sometimes they need somebody that believe in them. Because little by little, starting in your own country things could change.
To see this type of things you don’t need to travel further, in your own city, in your own neighborhood, or even in your own family, you can see this and help, because some people try to hide this, first they live good with a lot of money, but suddenly they lose everything and they are afraid of people knowing it, that’s because we life in a society based on the money, how much you can expend, or how do you live, you are supposed to be happier if you have lot of money, and that our first base of live.
Because of all this I chose the first goal, Eradicate extreme Poverty and Hunger, everybody should have the right to eat and drink in every part of the world that should be the base of society.
